WEEK 15
QUARTERBACKS - Matt Cassel's father passed away. He left practice, but he'll likely give it a go on Sunday. Gus Frerotte is out 1-2 weeks, so Tarvaris Jackson will stay as the starting QB. Daunte Culpepper is doubtful, but the Lions will get Dan Orlovsky back. Owners is dire need of a quarterback would want to look toward Shaun Hill or Seneca Wallace before considering someone like Jackson or Orlovsky. Shaun Hill has been incredibly steady since taking over the starting role. He sports a 62.9 completion percentage and is averaging 29.6 passing attempts per game. Hill has thrown at least 1 TD every time he's played and has 2 TDs in 4 out of his 6 games. San Francisco faces the dreaded east coast road trip against Miami, but the 49ers recently beat Buffalo on the road and they are 2-1 versus AFC East. If Gore is out, expect another 30 attempt outing with 200 yards. He's not spectacular, but appears dependable.
RUNNING BACKS - Peyton Hillis is out for the season with a torn hamstring leaving Tatum Bell, Selvin Young, and PJ Pope all in mix for carries. Selvin Young is probably the Broncos' favorite choice, but he has struggled to stay healthy. Tatum Bell bottomed out this year after being cut by Detroit. In limited time since his return, he has managed to average 4.2 yards per rush for his 24 carries. This might be the weakest rotation Denver has produced in recent memory leaving fantasy owners with too risky of a situation. LaDainian Tomlinson produced his first 90+ yard game since week 8. Le'Ron McClain will receive most of the duties this week with Willis McGahee and Ray Rice ailing. Frank Gore is a game time decision - it doesn't sound like he is going to play. DeShaun Foster would start and is desperation RB3. Tashard Choice turned out a solid effort against Pittsburgh gaining 88 yards on 23 carries and catching 5 passes for 78 yards. Marion Barber is questionable again, so Choice can get the call against another tough defense in the Giants.
WIDE RECEIVERS - Deion Branch hauled in 4 passes for 88 yards and 2 TDs last game and gets to face the Rams in week 15. Owners can get a little bit of help from him as a WR3. Davone Bess continues to rack up the receptions catching 9 passes for 74 yards. He's especially valuable in PPR leagues and has a good match up against the 49ers this week. Matt Jones' suspension is finally kicking in - he is done for the season. It was a very productive year for Jones amidst the turmoil in Jacksonville. He'll enter 2009 ranked in the WR3 range.
TIGHT ENDS - Gijon Robinson caught 6 passes for 69 yards. Dallas Clark is the main weapon so don't expect a dramatic repeat. Robinson might actually get some garbage time against Detroit this week, but owners can't depend on it. Tony Scheffler has 12 catches for 151 yards over the past 2 games. He'll be needed with the running game on its last legs. John Carlson followed up his 105-yard effort with an 8 catch 69-yard game in week 14. Continue to ride the hot hand against St. Louis if you need to start a TE. Visanthe Shiancoe caught 5 passes for 65 yards and 1 TD. There wasn't any other news about him this week, was there??
KICKERS - Adam Vinatieri has a measly 19 FG attempts on the season and is connecting at a 78.9% rate. Kris Brown missed a field goal last week, but hit a game winner as time expired. Brown, Neil Rackers, and Joe Nedney are all 23 for 26 (88.5%) when kicking field goals and have been particularly reliable this season. John Kasay missed only 1 field goal this year - a 50+ attempt in Week 10.
DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS - Oddsmakers are predicting a couple of low scoring games this week. They have the number set at 34 in the Baltimore-Pittsburgh game and 36.5 over/under in the Washington-Cincinnati matchup. Philadelphia draws the Browns at home on Monday night. The Eagles’ blitz-happy scheme will bring Ken Dorsey to his knees.
