WEEK 14
QUARTERBACKS - Derek Anderson tore his MCL and is done for the rest of the season. Cleveland will turn to Ken Dorsey - fantasy owners should turn away. Other than a 99-yard TD pass to Bernard Berrian, Gus Frerotte looked ordinary. He does face Detroit this week, but is no more than a QB2. Matt Hasselbeck threw 38 attempts and was sacked 7 times by Dallas. The Dolphins chose to run more against St. Louis leading to Chad Pennington throwing for 166 yards and 0 TDs. He plays Buffalo in this week, a team he went 22 for 30 for 314 yards and a TD in week 8. Marc Bulger threw 35 times but only amassed 149 yards.
RUNNING BACKS - The Ravens running back rotation is frustrating owners to no end. Le'Ron McClain received the workload against Cincinnati rushing 25 times for 86 yards, while Willis McGahee didn't receive a touch. Don't forget about Ray Rice who chipped in 11 rushes for 41 yards. McClain has been productive, Rice is the future, but John Harbaugh vows to keep McGahee in the fold. Fantasy owners should avoid playing the weekly guessing game and leave all 3 as bench depth until the Ravens’ coach gives a clearer indication on his plans. Marion Barber is banged up although he intends to play against Pittsburgh. Tashard Choice is a must-add in case Barber goes down. Ryan Grant sprained his thumb and sat down for the second half against Carolina. Brandon Jackson responded well, rushing 11 times for 80 yards. He earned a handcuff slot in the fantasy playoffs for Grant's owners. Justin Fargas ran 18 times for 82 yards and scored his first TD of the season. Fargas still receives the majority of Oakland's rushing attempts even with Darren McFadden being slowly worked into the mix. Deuce McAllister was suspended for his use of waterpills. Pierre Thomas is more valuable than ever, especially if Reggie Bush goes down again.
WIDE RECEIVERS - With Greg Camarillo out for the year, Davone Bess stepped in to catch 6 passes for 84 yards. If you are scrambling for receiver depth, he's worth a flier. Plaxico Burress' is out for the season and future is greatly in-doubt after shooting himself in the thigh. Domenik Hixon is his replacement and should have a spot on your roster. Malcolm Floyd caught 5 passes for 59 yards while Vincent Jackson didn't have a single reception. They play a tough Oakland secondary on Thursday night. Mark Bradley can tell you about Oakland’s defense backs as he was held without a catch against them on Sunday. He takes on Denver this time around, which should provide considerably more opportunities. The same goes for Dwayne Bowe who was limited to 2 catches for 27 yards.
TIGHT ENDS - The top 10 weekly leaders for receiving yards included three tight ends. Jason Witten (115 yards) and Tony Gonzalez (110 yards) aren't strangers to the leader board, but lesser known John Carlson made an appearance with 6 catches for 105 yards. Tony Scheffler finally got rolling catching 7 passes for 90 yards. Dustin Keller racked up 77 yards on 7 grabs against the Broncos resulting in his 4th consecutive game with at least 6 receptions.
KICKERS - The Giants turned back to John Carney for the second game in a row. After missing a field goal in two consecutive weeks, Josh Brown bounced back nicely with a 4 for 4 effort against Miami. Josh Scobee only connected on 2 of his last 5 field goal attempts.
DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS - Two big time defensive units get tremendous matchups this week. The Titans take on 3rd-stringer Ken Dorsey. Minnesota play hapless Detroit, but the Vikings may have 2 starting defensive lineman suspended. On the less-obvious front, Indianapolis had a nice game against Cleveland last week and their next 2 games are versus Cincinnati and Detroit.
