| FREE FANTASY BASEBALL REPORT |
| June 29, 2008 |
| CATCHERS - Ryan Doumit and Yadier Molina returned to action after missing several games due to concussions. Head injuries are tricky; recovery time seems to be guesswork. Kurt Suzuki has a .432 average in his last 10 games. He’s batted in the second spot 2 games in a row against the Giants. |
| FIRST BASE - After only one minor league rehab game, Carlos Pena was activated this week. Paul Konerko is still feeling pain, but may start minor league rehab assignment. Mark Teixeira is red hot belting 6 HRs in the past 6 games. He now sports a total of 16 on the season.
| SECOND BASE - Rumors are circulating of a Felipe Lopez trade between the Orioles & Nationals. Lopez can play shortstop for Baltimore or second base if Brian Roberts is traded. He clearly has not worked out in Washington; maybe a move to the AL can spark some production. Dan Uggla sprained his ankle, leaving Alfredo Amezaga to fill in. |
| THIRD BASE - Chipper Jones’ strained quad has caused him to miss 8 games; there still is no expected timetable on his return. Evan Longoria was the hottest third baseman over the past week hitting 14 for 33 (.424) with 4 HRs. David Wright did his best to match, hitting 10 for 24 (.417) along with 3 long balls.
| SHORTSTOP - JJ Hardy is in the middle of a 9 game hitting streak. Troy Tulowitzki hit his first homerun since being activated. Overall, he's 5 for 29 (.173) since coming off the DL. Aaron Miles is 14 for his last 30 (.467) with 1 SB. It was his first stolen base of the season.
| OUTFIELD - Gary Sheffield retuned to action, batting 6 for 23 (.261). He’ll primarily DH for Detroit. Josh Hamilton is battling a sore knee & hand. Also in Texas, Milton Bradley returned after missing several games and went 1 for 3 with a homerun. Bradley leads the AL with a .330 batting average. The Mets placed Trot Nixon on the DL & activated Ryan Church. So far, Nixon wasn’t able to duplicate his minor league success in New York. The National placed Lastings Milledge on the DL & will likely bring back Austin Kearns soon. |
| STARTING PITCHERS - Javier Vázquez has seen his ERA spike from 3.43 to 4.49 during the month of June. Daisuke Matsuzaka bounced back pitching 5 coreless against the Astros. He walked 3, vastly improving over his previous start. Pedro Martinez turned in another poor outing against the Yankees. He’s been topping out in the 6th inning, walking a ton of batters. He’ll need several quality starts before he’s back in mixed league discussions. Matt Garza struck out 10 in a 1 hit effort against the Marlins. He’s been erratic in 2008, but can be looked to in the right matchups.
| RELIEF PITCHERS - Brian Wilson has allowed a total of 6 hits and 3 earned runs in his past 3 outings. He had a 7 game hitless streak before the recent troubles. CJ Wilson has given up at least 1 hit in each of his past 10 appearances. His WHIP sits at 1.50 on the season. Ron Washington continues to give the vote of confidence, you should remain cautious. Jason Isringhausen has strained knee, but a DL visit isn’t expected at this point.
