I must admit, it was a difficult decision, but I had to dump
Grady Sizemore. Yes, just about a month
ago, I said that I would stick it out, but this is a different story.
After receiving three opinions on his ailing knee, Sizemore
finally decided to undergo the knife.
Initial estimates for his return are 6-8 weeks, but that’s only if he
doesn’t need microfracture surgery. I
just couldn’t take the chance.
I owned him in a league that allows for 1 DL spot that is
conveniently occupied by Nelson Cruz.
Considering I have an injured Jimmy Rollins on the bench, I felt it was
best to move on and dump Sizemore. Oh,
and there’s another problem. I rushed
out to snag Buster Posey with the slot I designate for these types of injury
situations. That left me with zero
replacement outfielders, and I’m not about to give up my waiver wire
prize. So, that left me to jettison
Sizemore and acquire Josh Willingham – who promptly broke his 6-game hitting
streak with and 0 for 4 night.
Even if Sizemore returns at the beginning of August, my 10th
place team couldn’t afford to wait around.
If I was in a better position, I would have been more determined to
figure out a way to make it work.
