Tyler Colvin and Mike Stanton are giving some power-starved
owners a sign of hope. After a combined
372 ABs, the duo has totaled 30 HRs and 79 RBI to go along with 73 runs.
Not too shabby.
Rookie sluggers can often be maddening, as evidence by
Colvin’s 254 AVE and the .260 mark for Stanton. But, they have that all-important “upside potential” when it
comes to overall production. Here’s a
snapshot of their stats through the season:
Tyler Colvin - 71/280 - 47R 18HR 42RBI 4SB .254 AVE
Mike Stanton - 50/192 - 27R 12HR 37RBI 4SB .260 AVE
Stanton is the better acquisition, especially considering
his current hot streak while Colvin battles through a slump. If we do a simple calculation using 480 ABs
as a benchmark, and, assuming they continue at their current pace, we get this:
Tyler Colvin - 480 ABs: 30 HR & 72 RBI – 80.5 Runs
Mike Stanton - 480 ABs: 30 HR & 92.5 RBI – 67.5 Runs
As you can see the HR total is basically identical, but I
think Stanton has the power pedigree and a better opportunity to “continue at his current pace.” It’s not that Colvin is devoid of value,
he’s spent most of his time hitting leadoff, so run scoring opportunities
abound. But, for the last several weeks
of the season, Stanton is the way to go.
