Fantasy owners received a horrible jolt when they saw Kendry
Morales being carted off the field with a broken leg after hitting a walk-off
grand slam. As Morales neared home
plate, he began to leap into the celebration when he went down in a heap of
pain.
Not only does the manner of the injury cause owners to
wince, they may have lost a valuable fantasy commodity for the entire season.
Fortunately, first base is the deepest position in fantasy
baseball, so don’t give up hope. Here’s
a rundown of some potential targets to help out with the Morales blues.
Troy Glaus – Don’t look now, but Glaus is 2nd in
the NL with 40 RBI and, gasp, he’s healthy.
He is Atlanta’s primary first baseman and will continue to see plenty of
RBI opportunities.
Aubrey Huff – True, AT&T Park will sap some power, but
he’s produced a solid line .297/.382/.474.
Buster Posey will draw some starts at first base, so Huff will play left
field to keep his bat in the lineup.
Nick Swisher – Remember the players with dual eligibility
like Swisher. He’s very streaky, but
quite hot right now so he can fill the hole in most mixed leagues.
Russell Branyan – Desperate times call for desperate
measures, so owners should perform their due diligence to see if they can
absorb Branyan’s batting average in order to get the power.
