There’s no place like home.
Your own shower – your own couch – your own bed, no matter where you
have been, there’s simply no place like home.
It’s easy to see why pitchers excel in their home park, but some hurlers
can post a pretty dramatic split.
Brandon Morrow: HOME (4-1, 3.35 ERA, 1.16 WHIP) AWAY (0-4,
7.09 ERA, 1.85 WHIP)
Morrow ranks 4th in the league with a 9.95 K/9
ratio but the 7.09 road ERA is troubling.
There are some signs of hope since his road .264 BAA show he’s plenty
capable of improving those dismal away stats.
He has a home game against the Cardinals next time out, so he’ll have a
sufficient test trying to keep the home fires burning.
Gio Gonzalez: HOME (4-2, 2.47 ERA, 0.97 WHIP) AWAY (2-3,
5.44 ERA, 1.67 WHIP)
Batters are hitting .298 against him on the road compared to
a .164 BAA at home - a pretty dramatic difference. You can’t help feeling that things will even out eventually, but
I’ll stick with the home starts until it does.
Ben Sheets: HOME (2-2, 2.79 ERA, 1.24 WHIP) AWAY (0-5, 6.95
ERA, 1.68 WHIP)
Similar to Gio Gonzalez, Sheets is thoroughly enjoying his
time in spacious Oakland Coliseum, too bad he’ll be playing in a different
uniform by July.
Ian Kennedy: HOME (1-1, 2.41 ERA, 0.95 WHIP) AWAY (2-4, 4.50
ERA, 1.35 WHIP)
Surprisingly, Kennedy has excelled in the Arizona launching
pad while struggling a bit on the road.
Other than some pretty vicious interleague matchups, I would keep
rolling Kennedy into your lineup regardless of where he is pitching.
