There are plenty of fantasy “mistakes” that can sneak up on
both rookie and veteran owners. Here’s
a quick list of some common situations that owners should avoid.
Don't over manage – Some owners are always shaking things
up, but that can do more harm than good.
Constantly turning over your roster is a dangerous game to play against
the law of averages.
Don’t fall asleep – While some owners over manage, some fall
asleep at the wheel. Join a league that
suits your activity level and remember that you have a responsibility to the
league to manage your team competitively.
Don't Panic - It seems to be a familiar theme in the first
few months of the season, but, too often, many owners panic and release players
after a poor start. Figure out a way to
keep the slumping player on the bench until he can work things out before
considering an outright release.
Don’t waste time – Don’t waste your time by offering silly
trade offers. Come up with something
fair, and by all means, put a note explaining why you are purposing the trade.
Don’t ignore leagues fees – There’s always someone that the
poor commissioner has to track down to get league fees paid. It’s just not fair to the rest of your
league – be an upstanding fantasy citizen.
Don’t assume – My grandmother once warned me never to
ass-u-me. I’m sure many of you heard
the same advice. Don’t assume a player
will be healthy when his DL stint is up, don’t assume you will acquire a player
during waivers, don’t assume you can always “trade for it later.” Basically, take a cautious approach and have
a backup plan.
