This
week’s report is a little different because, well - Week 17 is like no other
week during the regular season. It
mimics a quasi-preseason scenario where starters are playing just to "stay
sharp" and little-known backups enter the game to a chorus of "Who is
that again?"
It's
a little silly. After a long
hard-fought season, you are rewarded with a decision of dropping Drew Brees for
Chad Henne or Alex Smith.
Congratulations,
I think.
So,
if you find yourself in this situation, you simply have to bite the bullet and
make those disgusting decisions. Focus
on the teams that will definitely keep their starters in for the entire
game. Relying on good fortunate from 2
quarters of Peyton Manning is just too risky.
Also, don't forget about the backups on those teams with resting
starters. If you're in a pinch, give
consideration to Donald Brown and Mike Tolbert. Although I wouldn't trust Mark Brunell or Matt Leinart. When it comes to the rest of the league's
match ups that have no playoff implications (ATL vs. TB, SF vs. STL, DET vs.
CHI, etc.), ironically, it's business as usual.
Taking
a seat: These teams will likely go the safe route
and rest their star players.
New
Orleans - Already announced Drew Brees would be the emergency QB. Stay away from the Saints this weekend.
Indianapolis
- Expect a repeat of last week.
San
Diego - They have no chance of improving their playoff slot so the starters may
not get out of the 1st quarter.
Arizona
- If Minnesota loses in the early game; Arizona has a slim chance for a
first-round bye. If the Vikings win,
expect the starters to be yanked early.
Unknown
Plans:
New
England - They're talking about playing the entire game. I'd expect them to sit sometime in the
second half.
Cincinnati
- The starters may get to play the first half, but that's about it.
Green
Bay - Most are guessing that the starters will eventually exit the game.
Playing
for position:
Minnesota
- If they win, they secure a 1st round bye.
You can start all of your Vikings with confidence.
Philadelphia
& Dallas – The Cowboys and Eagles are playing in a historic rivalry to win
the NFC East.
Playing
for the playoffs: All of these teams have a
decent shot to enter the playoffs.
Start your players as you normally would.
Baltimore
- If the Ravens win, they are in the playoffs.
Lose and they are out.
Pittsburgh
& Houston - Both teams need a little help, but they have no chance if they
lose. Expect both offenses to be on
full throttle.
Barely
Alive:
Denver
- Brandon Marshall and Tony Scheffler will sit this one out. Moreno and Buckhalter will run the show.
Miami
& Jacksonville - A playoff birth is a long shot for these teams, but there
is a chance. Play your regulars.
