QUARTERBACKS
Actually, Kurt Warner's line of 27/46 for 242 yards 2 TDs
doesn't look to bad, until you get to the 5 picks. Considering the longest pass he completed was 19 yards, owners
continue to worry about Warner's inability to throw deep. Vince Young made his first start this season
and went 15/18 for 125 and a 1 TD.
Ladies and gentlemen, here is the new Titan "game
manger." Young's performance last
week may help Tennessee win a few more games, but it won't help fantasy
owners. Brett Favre beat his former squad
throwing for 244 yards and 4 TDs. On
the other side of the field, Aaron Rodgers posted a nice fantasy performance as
well tossing for 287 yards and 3 TDs.
Rodgers is still experiencing pain in his ankle, but vows to play. Derek Anderson 10.5 QB rating last week was
pitiful. Brady Quinn did get 3 attempts
at the end of the game, but Coach Mangini has no immediate plans to
change. Perhaps he has no faith
whatsoever in Quinn or it could be the 10 million dollar playing time bonus
that Quinn would be owned if he played the remainder of the season...
RUNNING BACKS
It
was another pedestrian stat line from Joseph Addai (20 carries for 62 yards)
until the Colts decided to pull some trickery with a running back option. Addai hit Reggie Wayne on a 22-yard TD pass
to give him some reasonable fantasy numbers at the end of the day. The fantasy points are there, but his
peripherals this season leaves something to be desired. Chris Johnson reeled in another Weekly
Fantasy MVP performance racking up 228 yards and 2 TDs. He averaged over 4.0 yards per carry even if
you subtract his two long TD runs of 52 and 89 yards. Brian Westbrook sat out with a concussion, so LeSean McCoy
started and carried the ball 11 times for 82 and 1 TD. Westbrook is expected back this Sunday, but
McCoy should still receive another 10 attempts. The Saints continue to split carries between Pierre Thomas (14)
and Mike Bell (17). Thomas is still the
primary fantasy option, but New Orleans needs to use both backs regularly to
keep them healthy. Gary Kubiak finally
had enough of Steve Slaton’s fumbles and turned to Ryan Moats during Sunday’s
contest against the Bills. Moats
responded, carrying the ball 23 times for 126 yards and 3 TDs. Houston is indicating that Slaton, Moats,
and Chris Brown will all be used in Week 9.
WIDE RECEIVERS
Reggie
Wayne received an amazing 20 targets on Sunday and hauled in 12 catches for 147
yards and a TD. The 49ers defense did a
good job of confusing Peyton Manning forcing him to rely heavily on his veteran
wideout. Jerricho Cotchery returned
from a two week absence to catch 3 passes for 70 yards. He was targeted 8 times, so he’s still
relevant despite Braylon Edwards’ presence.
San Diego released Chris Chambers leading the way for Malcolm Floyd to
start. The Chargers have a tough match
up against the Giants this week, so he’s only a WR4/5. Devery Henderson was targeted 6 times and
pulled in 4 receptions for 46 yards.
The Saints spread the ball around so well, it’s hard for owners to rely
on him for consistent production. Kevin
Walter only totaled 29 yards last week, but he has the chance to be more
involved after Houston lost Owen Daniels for the season.
TIGHT ENDS
For
the second week in a row, a top-flight fantasy tight end suffered a serious
injury. Owen Daniels is out for the
season, officially ending his 2009 breakout campaign. Fortunately, the tight end pool is pretty deep this year, so
owners should have decent options to choose from on a weekly basis.
