A's recalled Daric Barton after placing Jason Giambi on the DL with a strained
quad. Oakland has been an offensive
wasteland and deserves little attention.
Russell Branyan is suffering from a bad back and will sit out for a few
games. As expected, his batting average
has been plummeting over the past month.

BASE
Felipe
Lopez was traded to the Brewers for two minor leaguers. His value essentially remains the same. Edgar Gonzalez was hit in the head with a
pitch and needed to be carted off the field.
A DL trip is almost certain.
SHORTSTOP
Cristian
Guzman missed a few games due to foot bunions.
Bunions aren't a minor issue.
San Francisco's Fred Lewis had to get offseason surgery last year to
correct his bothersome feet. Alex
Gonzalez was sent on a minor rehab assignment.
Boston promoted Jed Lowrie from AAA as a precursor to Julio Lugo's
release.
THIRD
BASE
Mike
Lowell is still missing time with a sore hip.
Expect this back-and-forth injury status for the rest of the year. Mark DeRosa was activated from the 15 day
DL. Kansas City activated Alex Gordon
from the 15 day DL.
OUTFIELD
After
being out since May 25, Carlos Quentin was finally activated from the 15 day
DL. Fortunately, Ryan Braun is
day-to-day after being beaned by a pitch on his left wrist. Pittsburgh's Garrett Jones (7 homeruns) is
averaging 1 HR per 7 ABs. The RBI total
is low, but fantasy owners can use the power display until the rest of the
league slows him down. Andre Ethier is
10 for his last 31 (.322) with 2 HRs, but only 2 RBI.
STARTING
PITCHER
Philadelphia
added some pitching depth by signing Pedro Martinez to a one-year deal. Martinez really wasn't that effective last
year and it would be no surprise to seem him struggle with the Phillies. He’s probably best suited for the bullpen at
this point. Bronson Arroyo record now
stands at 8-5 with a 5.16 ERA. He’s
been constantly mentioned in trade rumors.

Ryan signed a minor league contract with the Chicago Cubs. He's a long shot to make an impact. Matt Lindstrom is progressing well and
should start a rehab assignment soon.
Manny Corpus was activated from the 15 day DL.
