Arizona Diamondbacks - Brad Ziegler P
This trade allowed Paul Goldschmidt to be called up from
Double-A. Concerning Goldschmidt, N.L only owners – feel free to take a
chance. For mixed leaguers – monitor.
Arizona Diamondbacks - Jason Marquis P
He's a Giant-killer and can easily provide the staff with
some much-needed depth. Fantasy value
is about the same - ho-hum.
Atlanta Braves - Michael Bourn OF
An absolute steal – literally. Bourn should fair well on a team in playoff contention.
Boston Red Sox - Erik Bedard P
Kind of a high price for a competent, yet often-injured
pitcher, but that's what Andrew Miller will make you do.
Boston Red Sox - Mike Aviles 3B
A backup with two .300 seasons, not too shabby for the Evil
Empire #2.
Cleveland Indians - Ubaldo Jimenez P
The Tribe gave up a boatload of prospects, but Jimenez is
relatively cheap if he regains #1-2 starter type of material.
St. Louis Cardinals - Rafael Furcal SS
Furcal gets rejuvenated and hopefully a boost in value
(couldn’t get much worse). Dee Gordon
will get a shot (especially for N.L. only owners) and Ryan Theriot takes a hit.
Pittsburgh Pirates - Ryan Ludwick OF / Derrek Lee 1B
At least Ludwick is out of Petco and a return to the N.L.
Central will do Lee some good.
Detroit Tigers - Doug Fister P & David Pauley P
We're fond of Detroit's move to acquire a couple of
arms. They might have some growing
pains out of Safeco, but they should be well supported by the offense.
Milwaukee Brewers - Jerry Hairston Jr. 3B / Felipe Lopez 3B
With Rickie Weeks on the shelf and virtually zero production
from the hot corner, the Brewers made some minor moves to increase depth. Mixed leaguers should be understandably
skeptical.
Texas Rangers - Koji Uehara P & Mike Adams P
Both will shorten the game and Adams will be ready if called
upon to close (although that's not supposed to happen - at least right away).
Philadelphia Phillies - Hunter Pence OF
After missing out on Beltran, Pence provides a nice
consolation prize. The Phillies needed
this year’s version of Jayson Werth and they did a pretty good job of getting
it.
San Francisco Giants - Orlando Cabrera 2B
How bad do you have to be to get Wally Pipp'ed by the 2011
version of Orlando Cabrera? - Miguel Tejada bad.
San Francisco Giants - Carlos Beltran OF
Without Buster Posey, the Giants had a gigantic (pardon the
pun) hole in the middle of their lineup.
He's not a cure-all, but he helps.
St. Louis Cardinals - Edwin Jackson P
Jackson should find the N.L. Central to be quite a bit
easier than its American League counterpart - he's now in mixed league
discussions.
Toronto Blue Jays - Colby Rasmus OF
He needed a change - simple as that. No one ever questioned his talent, just his
attitude. The ultra-pleasant Canadian
population will do him some good – so will batting 2nd in a potent
Toronto lineup.
