After looking at the stolen base leader board through two
weeks, a couple of names jump out.
Sure, Willie Bloomquist stole 25 bases for the Royals in 2009, but 7
swipes through 11 games is a pretty nice ratio. Arizona really doesn't have a legitimate leadoff hitter, so
Bloomquist could stick at the top of the lineup by default, which would
continue to give incentive to keep active on the base paths.
The sudden retirement of Manny Ramirez opened the door for
Sam Fuld to claim a spot in the Tampa Bay outfield and he has responded with 7
steals in 12 games. We are awfully
nervous about the Rays' offense, especially without Longoria, but speed rarely
slumps and Joe Maddon has no trouble trying to manufacture runs.
