Every season, several young pitchers emerge and prove
themselves fantasy worthy. This year is
no different, and a few of the youngsters turned in an impressive start to the
2011 season.
In a shocking bit of news, Manny Ramirez announced his
retirement rather than face a possible 100-game suspension for a third
violation of MLB’s drug policy.
Actually, it’s not shocking at all. The selfishness and arrogance Ramirez has
displayed throughout his career fits right along with his abrupt exit from the
game. In his mind he probably thought,
“Well I’m only making 2 million anyway, it’s not worth it.” In fact, Ramirez has hauled in an estimated
$204 million dollars over his career.
And let’s face it, that’s all he really cares about.
In fantasy terms, Ramirez’s owners won’t be that hurt. He was likely a late round pick that can
easily be replaced. It has the
possibility to hurt the weakened Rays lineup, but there’s also a chance that
the 1-17 Ramirez was part of the problem – not the solution.
