There always seems to be several surprises that emerge from
the first month of the season and this year is no different. These trends may not continue, but it's
appropriate to take notice of any patterns that have the possibility to work to
your advantage.
Jose Bautista TOR - 9 HRs / .366 AVE: Considering Bautista
hit 54 HRs last year, people may now consider his power legitimate – but the
batting average is a bigger surprise.
Kyle Lohse STL - 1.64 ERA / 4 wins: After 2 frustrating years, Lohse is off to a
fast start, but some correction has to be on the horizon. Don't underestimate Dave Duncan’s ability to
pull the best out of his staff, so keep an eye out in mixed leagues.
Ben Zobrist TB - 25 RBI:
Thanks to a monster 10 RBI game, Zobrist finds himself among the league
leaders in RBI. It’s more luck than a
trend, but we’ll take it.
Kevin Correia PIT – 2.90 ERA / 4 wins: Along with Lohse, Correia has been a big
N.L. surprise leading the league in wins along with posting a 2.90 ERA. Considering the family tragedy he had to
deal with in 2010, were glad to see him back being productive. But, the quality of his team will eventually
limit win opportunities.
Alfonso Soriano - 10 HRs:
He hasn't hit 10 HRs in a month since 2008. Soriano is notoriously streaky, so ride the hot hand while you
can.
Cleveland Indians – 18 wins / 8 losses: Maybe Charlie Sheen wasn't kidding about
another "Major League" sequel.
