As a veteran fantasy baseball owner, you know better. You know better than to freak out. You know better than to trade away half of
your roster. You know better than to
blame it on the wrath of those oh so fickle fantasy gods.
You know better - but it still hurts.
If you are in the bottom two-thirds of your league after the
first month of the season you are all too aware of your weaknesses. Whether it's pitching (Thanks a bunch
Francisco Liriano and Ryan Dempster) or hitting (Same goes for you Evan Longoria
and Ryan Zimmerman), you have drilled down the areas where your team needs
improvement.
If you are looking to scratch away at the deficit you now
find yourself in, follow a few steps to help right the ship.
Bench Struggling Stars - Don't be afraid to bench your
struggling stars until they show a few games of improvement. Carlos Pena, Aubrey Huff, Vernon Wells, etc.
all belong on the bench until they snap out of it. Once they show signs of life, feel free to insert them back into
the lineup.
Who's Hot - If your league has a favorable waiver wire
system with unlimited transactions, consider rotating the hot hand. As soon as the player cools off, move on to
the next one without hesitation. You
always want to be two steps ahead of the curve, not behind it.
Playing matchups - It's never too early to consider your
pitcher's opponent. The Padres’ offense
is so anemic, you should be starting your pitcher every time against them -
even Ryan Dempster.
